BMW M340i Paint Correction

The project

This black BMW M340i had picked up swirl marks from everyday washing — and on dark paint, every swirl and light scratch shows. The owner wanted the finish cleaned up and its depth brought back to the way black is meant to look.

Dark paint is unforgiving: it shows everything, which is exactly why the payoff from correcting it is so dramatic. We started by clay-barring and fully decontaminating the paint to pull out everything bonded to the surface. From there we ran a two-step correction — a cutting stage to remove the swirls, followed by a refining polish to clear the haze and restore true clarity. The result is a deep, glossy black with clean reflections and none of the web of swirl marks it came in with.

What we did

• Clay bar & full decontaminationThe paint was clay-barred and fully decontaminated to strip bonded contaminants and leave a glass-smooth surface to work on.
• Cutting stageThe first correction stage cut the swirl marks and defects out of the clear coat.
• Refining polishA second refining polish cleared the haze and restored the deep, glossy black the paint is meant to have.
• Final inspectionThe finish was inspected under corrective lighting to confirm swirl-free clarity before handing back the keys.
