The project

This 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe was a fresh purchase, but it didn't look its best. The previous owner had run it through automatic car washes over and over, and those spinning brushes had left the black paint so heavily swirled and oxidized that it read grey in the sunlight instead of the deep black it was meant to be.

Automatic car washes are one of the fastest ways to ruin a dark finish — the stiff brushes drag grit across the paint and etch in swirl marks with every pass. We started by claying and fully decontaminating the paint, then ran a stage-one correction — a cut-and-polish in a single step — to slice through the swirling and oxidation for a 70–80% improvement. That was enough to bring the true black depth back and let the paint reflect the way it should. To protect that finish going forward, we sealed the whole car with a ceramic coating across every painted surface and the vinyl wrap, so the gloss lasts and future washes are far gentler on it.

What we did

  • Clay bar & full decontaminationA clay bar treatment and complete paint decontamination to lift bonded contaminants before polishing.
  • Stage-one paint correctionA cut-and-polish in one step, cutting through the swirls and oxidation for a 70–80% correction and restoring true black depth.
  • Ceramic coating — paint & wrapA durable ceramic coating applied to all painted surfaces and the vinyl wrap for lasting gloss and protection.
  • Final inspectionThe whole vehicle inspected under light to confirm an even, deep finish before handing back the keys.
